Our Savior Lutheran School!

Our Savior Lutheran School first opened in 1998 with a pre-school program in the church’s fellowship hall. With the Lord's blessings, the school grew. Following a year of construction, we opened a new school wing in 2005. In that first year operating as an Elementary School we served children from age three through grade five.

Now six years later, we nurture, educate, and minister to students from Marlette, Brown City, Kingston, Sandusky, and North Branch. Classes are available to children from age 3 through grade 8. We offer a multi-grade approach to learning in grades 1-8 where students are served by loving, dedicated teachers. Class sizes are small at Our Savior, which is one of the hallmarks of our program and a definite plus for students!

Enrollment is open to all. It is the sincere desire of our administration, staff, and School Board that this ministry be accessible to everyone. To that end, we offer a variety of tuition payment plans, generous discounts to families with more than one child enrolled, and financial assistance to families who qualify and sincerely want Christian Education for their children.

We work very hard to keep fees and tuition as low as possible to open this ministry to as many children and families as we can. Basic tuition rates for the 2011-2012 school year are listed below. Please note that these rates do not reflect any of the potential discounts that are available for early enrollment, multiple children, member discounts, and so forth. It's possible that your child's tuition rate could be even lower!

Pre-School Program

Three-Year-Old Program ANNUAL TUITION: $1000.00

Four-Year-Old Program ANNUAL TUITION: $1200.00

Three-year-old children attend school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:20 to 11:00.

Four-year-old children attend on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8:20 to 11:00

Children may ride to school on the Marlette public school system buses if parents so desire; however, public transportation is not available following classes.

Our Pre-School receives high marks from the State of Michigan Bureau of Children & Adult Licensing.

Elementary Grades

ANNUAL TUITION for K - 8: $2700.00

Our all-day every day Kindergarten is set up so that parents who feel their child is not ready for the rigors of a full-day can opt to pick up their youngster at noon. All of our Kindergarten academic subjects are taught in the morning with enrichment activites scheduled for the afternoon.

All K-8 students may take advantage of our hot lunch program. We participate in the national school hot lunch program and offer the free and reduced price lunch program also. Our school lunches are the best! Click here for the MENU.

All students enrolled at Our Savior and residing in the Marlette School District are eligible to ride the public school buses free of charge.

About Our Program

Our elementary teachers are State of Michigan Certified and are receiving additional training through The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod to be recognized as Teachers of Religious Instruction.

All the classes we offer are dedicated to the principle that Christian education begins at home with Christian parents.

Our goal is to support parents in their God-given role as the primary and most important teachers in their child's life.

We minister to the whole child - spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and physically. Our curriculum is time-tested and academically sound. Beyond books and paper, we also instruct students in computer applications in our library/computer lab. Children in kindergarten are already learning how to type!

Once-a-week classes in Health and Physical Education contribute to each student's physical well-being. Art and Music are a part of the weekly curriculum too. Taught by gifted teachers, these avenues give the children excellent, God-pleasing ways to express their creativity.

Students in grades 2-8 are tested each spring using the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. We are pleased to report that they score very well nationally. We choose to use the Iowa test over the "MEAP" test for several reasons. First, the Iowa test gives us a broader picture of each student's knowledge and ability. Second, the Iowa test compares students from across the nation, not just Michigan. Third, there are educators and many others who believe the MEAP test to be flawed. Recently, one of our local television stations reported, "Study Says Michigan Student Falling Behind National Standards". This report raises concerns over the perception and reality of the MEAP scores. You can see the report by clicking on this link These are just a few of the reasons we opt for the Iowa test over the Michigan Educational Assessment Program.

Often we hear from students who had to transfer from our program into a public school setting that the knowledge gained in the OSLS classroom exceeded that of their new school. They found themselves "ahead" of other students!
